Despite rates increasing, “total container throughput at the Port of Fremantle saw a decrease in July, driven by a slump in overseas exports, according to the latest statistics from Fremantle Ports.
Total container throughput for July was reported to be 59,137 TEU, a decrease of 7% on the previous month’s throughput (63,819 TEU).
July’s throughput was also a decrease of 4% on the same month last year, and it was the smallest total throughput at the port since June 2017.
This slump in container trade was driven by a decline in overseas exports in July, which fell 19% on June’s numbers to 25,667 TEU.
Other areas of trade through the port saw modest increases in July (over the previous month) with the total coastal trade increasing by 4% top 8563 TEU, and overseas imports showing an increase of 4% to 24,907 TEU.”
