EFFECTIVE problem-solving efforts by Fremantle Ports have been acknowledged with two awards at the recent 2018 Western Australian Supply Chain and Logistics Awards.
The Innovation Award and the Excellence in Transport Planning, Supply Chain and Logistics Award both went to Fremantle Ports’ Truck Control System.
According to Fremantle Ports, the system has interconnecting elements which increase supply chain visibility in the port precinct and also improve coordination.
The Vehicle Detection System aims to enhance supply chain efficiency by using licence plate recognition technology to identify a vehicle at a time and place for vehicle trend analysis, process auditing and security purposes.
Another detection and reporting element is the Queuing Control System which provides early warning of congestion risk, allowing preventive action.
The fourth element of the Truck Control System is the automated messaging and direct-to-driver telematics-powered Driver Information Service.

Fremantle Ports Manager Logistics Sue Hellyer said the integrated technology that made up the Truck Control System added value for supply chain participants.
“Operational efficiency is increased through improved communication, availability of data for better coordination and the ability for the port and supply chain participants to work together to resolve issues such congestion as they are detected,” Ms Hellyer said.
